I am pleased to share this inaugural issue of From the Heart, a newsletter created to help you learn more about the people, services, and programs that make the MUSC Heart & Vascular Center South Carolina’s leading source of cardiovascular care, research, and education.

If you are reading this as a patient, I want to thank you for entrusting us with your care. Providing you and your family with patient-focused care is more than our mission. It is our calling. It is what drives us to continually search for new and better ways to help you prevent or recover from heart and vascular problems. Beyond that, it is an honor and privilege to be there for you during your time of need.

If you are reading it as a volunteer or someone who has made a gift in support of our mission, I want to thank you for your generosity. Although MUSC is a state-assisted institution, state support provides only 5% of our annual budget. Gifts from people like you help fill that gap, empowering us to make a transformational difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Finally, if you are reading this simply because you want to learn more about our work, I thank you for your interest. Cardiovascular disease touches almost everyone in some way. Thanks to continued research and innovation, we can offer these patients more life-changing treatment options than ever before. The more you know about these options and our ongoing efforts to develop new ones, the better.

Thank you again for your friendship, caring, and support. You are a special part of our MUSC Heart & Vascular Center family and we remain most grateful!

Sincerely,

Thomas G. Di Salvo, M.D., MPH, MBA
