Dear friends of MUSC,

When we created the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund just a couple of months ago, we did not realize the full scope and scale of the challenges we would face as the coronavirus pandemic unfolded.  We just knew we would have many new needs and that they likely would be emergent.  We created this fund so that we would have the resources needed to respond to them quickly and decisively.

Just this week, we received another powerful reminder of how important this fund has become to our efforts to minimize the impacts of this disease. On Monday, we learned that in early June, the fund will help pay the employee portion of the health and dental premiums for the hospital’s 5,927 hourly employees who have experienced a cut in hours due to the virus.

Earlier, this same fund helped us purchase a piece of state-of-the-art technology that will enable us to double the number of COVID-19 tests we can perform each day. Interestingly, our researchers found this equipment unexpectedly on eBay.

None of this would have been possible without you. Hundreds of you have made gifts to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund so far. In doing so, you have given us the speed and flexibility needed to meet needs we couldn’t have even imagined a few months ago. For that, we are so grateful. I hope you will use these examples as affirmation that you can indeed make a powerful difference in our efforts to end this crisis.

Thank you!
