Charleston Area Reproduction Number (Rt)

What Does This Graph Show?

The graph shows the Basic Reproductive Number (also referred to as Rt) which indicates the average number of people each infected person goes on to infect. If Rt is greater than 1 the epidemic will continue to be sustained or grow. If Rt drops below 1 eventually the epidemic will slow, and if low enough it will eventually cease to exist.

The basic reproduction number is similar to the R-Naught value, however the R-Naught is calculated for when there is no immunity from past exposures or vaccination, nor any deliberate intervention in disease transmission. We refer to R as an 'effective reproduction number' when there is some immunity or some intervention measures in place.
