MUSC Presidential Update - November 10, 2020

Dear MUSC family,

Each year, our nation recognizes and celebrates the innumerable contributions the U.S. armed forces make to the protection of our democracy and way of life. Tomorrow, Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is about taking a moment to reflect on how the freedom we enjoy today is built upon the sacrifices of those selfless and honorable individuals, from all walks of life, who were willing to risk their lives for their country.

I hope you’ll take the time to read the MUSC Catalyst News story that features some of the veterans in the MUSC family, and I encourage you, if possible, to attend the MUSC Health-sponsored virtual recognition event from 3 to 4 p.m., later today, featuring guest speaker Army Chaplain (Col.) Monica R. Lawson. Tomorrow, my hope is that you will find personal and meaningful ways to honor the veterans in your life.

We will never be able to repay the debt we owe to the brave people who have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. We are forever grateful for the sacrifices of our military members, and their loved ones, who ultimately allow us the general comfort, security and freedom we enjoy daily so that we can change what’s possible for others.

On behalf of the entire MUSC family, I extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of those who have sacrificed and served our country.

Yours in service,
David J. Cole, M.D., FACS
MUSC president
