Employee Wellness

Changing What's Possible for the Health of Our Employees

The Employee Wellness Program at MUSC strives to encourage and support a healthy lifestyle for our employees, making the healthy choice the easy choice. We integrate activities into our daily work, allocate resources toward healthy initiatives, and re-work policies with the intention of enhancing the health and well-being of the MUSC community from the inside out. By developing programs geared towards the health of our employees, we are helping to change what’s possible within our community.

The mission of MUSC Employee Wellness is to promote health by creating a culture of wellness through policies, systems, and an environment that encourages healthy behaviors. Our current focus is on identifying and correcting conditions in the workplace that compromise the health of our employees. These conditions reduce levels of productivity and contribute to escalating health care costs.

Current Programs

We are pleased to offer employees a variety of classes and events, access to membership discounts, and educational sessions on health and nutrition designed to help our employees take charge of their health. Programs designed to help manage weight, quit smoking, reduce stress and explore complementary, and alternative therapies are just some of the resources that are available to MUSC employees.

Wellness Wednesdays

Free chair massages are offered in several locations on campus, as well as other informative sessions. Take a look at Yammer for up-to-date information on what’s happening.

MUSC Farmer's Market/CSA's

Our relationship with local farmers has resulted in a weekly Farmers Market and community supported agriculture (CSA) options with nearby or even on campus delivery - putting fresh, healthy options right where you need it. This event, sponsored by MUSC Employee Wellness, takes place every Friday in the Horseshoe. Here you can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from our local farmers. It is recommended that you eat 5-9 servings of colorful, nutritious, disease preventing fruits and vegetables every day. New vendors sign up frequently so come by and check out what's new.

Free Monthly Employee Workout Class

Fit a workout into your schedule - free monthly class. MUSC Employees are invited to participate - held at the Wellness Center, 45 Courtenay Drive. Schedule and session type vary. Registration is required and space is limited. Free day pass for participants at their first class. Registration is required.

MUSC Urban Farm

The MUSC Urban Farm provides a place where students, faculty, staff, and the Charleston community can come together to learn about the connection between land and food. The .5 acre Farm, located on the corner of Bee and President Streets hosts workshops, volunteer workdays, and tours for local schools. Participants are educated on the value of incorporating vegetables into their diets through cooking and nutrition lessons and will experience a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on learning about sustainable urban agriculture.

Classes & Presentations

Presentations, classes, and screenings are presented to MUSC employees, students, and faculty, and by resources in our Charleston community, upon request. Topics are related to a wide range of issues about wellness and healthy lifestyles.
