Employee Wellness

Changing What's Possible for the Health of Our Employees

The Employee Wellness Program at MUSC strives to encourage and support a healthy lifestyle for our employees, making the healthy choice the easy choice. We integrate activities into our daily work, allocate resources toward healthy initiatives, and re-work policies with the intention of enhancing the health and well-being of the MUSC community from the inside out. By developing programs geared towards the health of our employees, we are helping to change what’s possible within our community.

Register For Your Screening

The basic screening includes blood work, a health risk appraisal, height and weight measurements, blood pressure, and lipid panels. Results will be included in your personal health profile highlighting any values outside the normal range. You can even send this report to your physician or take a copy with you on your next doctor's office visit, which may save you money and keep you from duplicating tests. View a detailed description of the screening components.

There is a suggested 12-hour fast prior to your screening (you may have water and any required medications you may be taking). Participants are required to complete all components of this health screening. This includes height, weight, blood pressure, blood draw, and paperwork. Please bring your insurance card with you the day of the screening. Your insurance card ID number will be required when filling out paperwork.

Your appointment should last 15 to 30 minutes. You will receive the results via Doctors Care online patient portal within two to three days.

No-Pay Copay

PEBA Perks: This program encourages PEBA members to be more engaged in their health—and saves them money. It allows members with certain conditions to receive generic drugs at no cost. Participants qualify for the program on a quarterly basis. By completing certain activities in one quarter, they can receive certain generic drugs the next quarter.

Should you wish to complete your annual biometric screening off-campus, the PEBA Perks benefit also enables participants to conduct their screening at any Doctors Care location.

Current Programs

We are pleased to offer employees a variety of classes and events, access to membership discounts, and educational sessions on health and nutrition designed to help our employees take charge of their health. Programs designed to help manage weight, quit smoking, reduce stress and explore complementary, and alternative therapies are just some of the resources that are available to MUSC employees.

Farmer's Market

A weekly farmer's market is hosted by Fields Farms out of Johns Island at the Charleston Medical District (CMD) Greenway on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

We are currently partnered with Gruber Farms out of St. George with a weekly pick up at the Wellness Center. Visit the Gruber CSA Farm website for more information.

MUSC Urban Farm

The MUSC Urban Farm provides a place where students, faculty, staff, and the Charleston community can come together to learn about the connection between land and food. The .5 acre Farm, located on the corner of Bee and President Streets hosts workshops, volunteer workdays, and tours for local schools. Participants are educated on the value of incorporating vegetables into their diets through cooking and nutrition lessons and will experience a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on learning about sustainable urban agriculture.

Classes & Presentations

Presentations, classes, and screenings are presented to MUSC employees, students, and faculty, and by resources in our Charleston community, upon request. Topics are related to a wide range of issues about wellness and healthy lifestyles.
