High-Risk Destination Travel

The International Travel Oversight Committee reviews destinations using a variety of sources, including U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories, CDC Travel Health Notices, other non-U.S. government advisories, and International SOS, our assistance provider’s risk ratings

The following countries and regions are considered “high-risk” and are subject to additional review and authorization under the University’s international travel policy, in order to promote safety and mitigate risk.

  • Countries or reegions with U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Risk Levels of 3 or 4; or
  • Countries or regions with U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Risk Levels of 1 or 2 that have areas designated as “Reconsider travel” or “Do Not Travel” when the travel itinerary brings the  individual to the high-risk region designated as “Reconsider travel” or “Do Not Travel.; or
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Warning Level 3: Avoid Nonessential Travel Health Notice; or
  • Countries or regions which, at the discretion of the university leadership, pose a high risk to MUSC travelers due to significant health, safety or security risks present.
