MUSC Presidential Update - November 10, 2021

Dear MUSC family,

Tomorrow, we have an opportunity to pause in our daily lives to recognize and honor the critical contributions the U.S. armed forces make to protect us and those we love. Veterans Day is about honoring those who have served and reflecting on the sacrifices that have been made. It is also about thanking and elevating the many selfless, diverse and heroic individuals and families in active service for our country.

MUSC will observe Veterans Day with a virtual ceremony today, Nov. 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. Tom Crawford, Ph.D., MUSC Health System COO and Navy veteran, will serve as the master of ceremonies, and guest speaker, Matt Redding, deputy director of Individual Response for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Office of Response and Recovery and a 30-year Army veteran, will share his thoughts on the significance of service.

I hope you will find personal and meaningful ways to honor the veterans in your life. Although we will never be able to repay the debt we owe to the brave people who have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, we can find ways to express our gratitude to military members, veterans and their loved ones, who ultimately enable our ability to impact the lives of others.

To our MUSC veterans: THANK YOU for your strength, skill, sacrifice and commitment to duty in service of our country.

Yours in service,

David J. Cole, M.D., FACS
MUSC President
