The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is South Carolina's only comprehensive academic health science center. Our purpose is to preserve and optimize human life in South Carolina through our vision to lead health innovation for the lives we touch.

We are a complex organization and operate as an enterprise within which are three unique legal entities:

  1. University (MUSC University) – state agency
  2. Hospital (MUHA) – exempt state agency
  3. Physicians practice plan (MUSCP) – non-profit

As distinct legal entities, we maintain our own Procurement teams for general purchasing and solicitation purposes. Still, we recognize the value that comes from collaboration.

A variety of shared services are best accomplished across multiple entities, and thus, we collaborate to ensure those opportunities for service and delivery efficiencies may be achieved across the enterprise. OneMUSC is our strategic plan that contributes to this philosophy, and why MUSC is “Changing what is possible” for our patients, employees, students, communities, and suppliers.
