MUSC observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2022

A note from MUSC President David J. Cole, M.D., FACS – January 14, 2022

Dear MUSC family,

As we celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 17, I hope that we will all take the time to reflect on the life’s work and legacy of a man and leader whose impact remains profound.

Beyond a day of introspection and refection, though, the King holiday is a day of action, change-making and above all – service to others.

Our MUSC diversity, inclusion and equity teams across the enterprise, and in particular, team members in the Office of Student Programs and Student Diversity, have developed multiple opportunities for you to reflect, celebrate and serve as we honor and commemorate Dr. King and his legacy.

As an organization, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is more purposeful and multidimensional than at any other time in our history. In fact, our enterprise strategic plan, OneMUSC, states our intent to “Become the preeminent model for inclusion and equity, setting a national standard among academic health systems.” Not “a” model – but “the” model. It will take our entire MUSC family to realize this aspiration. I believe that we are up to the challenge.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this and for your commitment to our mission and shared values.

Yours in service,

David J. Cole, M.D., FACS
MUSC President
