MUSC Center for Health Policy

The MUSC Center for Health Policy coordinates public policy initiatives across the academic, research, and clinical enterprises at MUSC. The Center promotes innovative, evidence-based policy solutions that further MUSC’s mission to optimize human health in South Carolina and beyond.

As South Carolina's only comprehensive academic health system, it is critical that MUSC continue to lead in the policy-making space and play a proactive, mission-driven role in the state and national discourse on health care and health professions education.

The MUSC Center for Health Policy advances leadership and policy development in a number of ways:

  • Provides useful and reliable analysis to inform policy, specifically on issues relating to value, access to care, rural health and prevention; and academics and workforce development
  • Designs and employs strategies and forums to educate the MUSC community and public stakeholders about health policy issues
  • Promotes leadership development in the health policy field
  • Fosters relationships and collaborative opportunities with other health policy entities.

Over the past several years and especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, MUSC has significantly and intentionally evolved. With this growth comes an exciting opportunity to expand our health policy leadership. For this reason, MUSC identified “Influence” as one of the three pillars (Impact-Innovation-Influence) of the new five year strategic plan. We encourage you to learn more about the OneMUSC strategy here, and join our efforts to become recognized thought leaders and policy‐shapers for our state and the nation.
