Media Relations

MUSC Office of Public Affairs and Media Relations Internship Program

MUSC’s Office of Public Affairs and Media Relations has been involved in the teaching and mentoring of college-level students as interns since the mid-1990s to support the institution’s mission of providing excellence in internal and external communications.

Internships include the opportunity to research, interview, coordinate, and write news stories for MUSC Catalyst News (print and digital) and help with media relations activities.

Interns may learn about photography, videography, editing, writing news releases, social media, crisis communications, and special projects.

The MUSC Office of Public Affairs and Media Relations Internship Program provides this year-round opportunity for qualified college students who want to learn and contribute to a collaborative and energetic environment. Candidates must be enrolled in a journalism, professional writing, public relations, communications or English program, and must be seeking internship credit. Candidates may apply for one of two positions to work at least 12 to 15 hours per week for 12 weeks a semester.

Intern candidates must be:

  • Prepared to provide writing samples
  • Comfortable meeting and talking with new people
  • Motivated, reliable, organized self-starters
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines
  • Flexible
  • Insured medically
