As the state's flagship hospital and medical university, The Board of Trustees is the final authority and governing body of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), its colleges, outreach programs and ancillary functions. The Board names the principal officers of the organization, including the President.
As the governing body and final authority for MUSC, the Board establishes general policies of the University, defines educational programs and approves annual budgets.
President David J. Cole, M.D., FACS came to the Medical University in 1994 as an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, division of general surgery. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to professor in 2002.
In addition to our board and president, our leadership includes several offices governing academics, research, finances, giving, technology, human resources, student affairs, communications and more.
