Behind every group exercise class there is research, science, preparation, and a team to ensure your success. The Wellness Center is committed to providing you with the highest quality classes to help you achieve your fitness and wellness goals.

Group Exercise Class Descriptions

Pool Based Classes:

Aquatic Water Works - Designed to encourage individuals with physical restrictions to exercise safely and effectively in the pool at a moderate intensity reducing the level of impact on the joints within the body.

Water Aerobics - A full body workout encompassing cardiorespiratory and interval training. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Water Tabata - This class offers a low impact workout targeting the full body through cardiovascular and strength training in the water. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Cardio Classes:

Cycling - Focuses on conditioning the cardiovascular system and lower body through exercise matched music led by Stages certified cycling instructors. This class focuses on climbing hills, flat roads, sprinting, as well as endurance and is open to individuals of all fitness levels. 

Zumba - A full body dance workout combining all elements of fitness improving cardiovascular health, strength, balance, and flexibility. A mix of low-intensity and high-intensity moves makes this class perfect for individuals of all fitness levels.

Mind Body Classes:

Movement and Mobility - Focuses on joint mobility, stretching, movement efficiency, stress reduction, and recovery work. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Pilates Mat - Pilates Mat challenges the whole body through non-impact exercises to strengthen, lengthen, and stretch the body while placing an emphasis on strengthening the core. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Yoga - Focuses on improving strength, mobility, and flexibility through controlled movements and breathing techniques to connect the mind, body, and spirit.

Restorative Yoga for Beginners $$ - This small group training style yoga class is for individuals who are just beginning their yoga journey. Relax your body and reduce your stress with Marty Rivers (riversma@musc.edu) at an additional fee.

Stae Fit Classes (Older Adults):

Stae Fit Chair - This class introduces yoga movements to improve mobility, strength, and stability while incorporating breathwork techniques. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Stae Fit Pilates - This class helps to increase endurance, strength, balance, and mobility through non-impact exercises to improve overall stability and reduce the risk of injuries. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Stae Fit Strength - This class incorporates a total body workout focusing on building overall strength and stability. This class is open to individuals of all fitness levels.

Strength and Circuit Classes: 

Core Strength Express - This class is designed to improve core functional strength, endurance, and stability while also tightening and toning your midsection.

HIIT - This high intensity interval training class is designed to keep your heart rate elevated through a variety of exercises. Timing intervals will alternate through periods of hard work and rest incorporating weightlifting and cardio. HIIT is a high energy, fun environment that welcomes all levels of fitness experience.

Strength Circuit - This is a moderate to high intensity class that aims to improve functional strength and mobility through weightlifting circuits.

Les Mills BODYPUMP™ - BODYPUMP ™ is a scientifically-backed barbell workout using light to moderate weights and high repetitions to help build strength. Classes are moderate to high intensity focusing on strengthening muscles, improving bone health, and build core strength.

Swerve Virtual Cycling

The Wellness Center's virtual cycling program, Swerve, is live in the Cycling Studio. Swerve is a cycling experience like no other, and features:

  • World-class instructors that lead each workout via stream
  • Everyone in the room being on your team, competing with other gyms in real life
  • Working harder, celebrating bigger and walking away stronger every time

Multiple classes available every day of the week, and they are all included with your MUSC Wellness Center membership! Guests can also join by purchasing a daily guest pass. View the schedule of ride times below.

To participate, simply show up a few minutes prior to a scheduled class, find a bike, and scan the QR code on the side of a bike. Then get to set to sweat!
