MUWC

About Us

Our mission is to promote good will, interest in, and support of the Medical University of South Carolina. We also provide activities that promote fellowship and bring the members into a closer relationship.

The club was organized in 1966, with Ms. Desmond Koster being the first president. In 1996, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of MUWC, Emily Gadsden, Trude Spicer, Betty Kinard, Verona Kinsey, and Kay Miller were named honorary members for their work in starting the club, originally the Medical University Women’s Club, named for its founding members. They talked of volunteering at the hospital, cuddling babies, and during the hospital workers' strike in 1969, stepping in to assist in all areas from patient care to emptying bed pans and mopping the floors.

What We Do

The MUWC supports MUSC through volunteerism and by awarding scholarships to selected students in the six colleges. We also provide opportunities for fellowship through programs and special interest groups.

Upcoming Events

The Fall Coffee will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the home of Dr. David and Mrs. Kathy Cole.

Scholarships will be awarded on campus in late October.
