Walk for Water: March 24

Center for Global Health
February 15, 2012

What if you had to walk four miles every day just to have access to water? That's the average distance that women in developing countries must walk every day to collect water for their families. It is estimated that over 2.6 billion people globally live without adequate sanitation, and this accounts for 42% of the world's population.

The average American uses about 80-100 gallons of water each day, but in developing countries, five gallons can meet the daily water needs of one person. One out of every eight people in the world, roughly 884 million, lack access to safe water.

Join Water Missions International to Walk for Water on March 24th. About 100 more volunteers are still needed for Water Missions International's largest fundraiser. Be a vital part of an event that will help eight to nine communities with the gift of safe water! Volunteers are needed in children's activities, park maintenance, intersection traffic control, water distribution, and much more!

Cooper River Bridge Run: March 30-31

The following weekend, Water Missions International will be one of 12 benefiting charities for the Cooper River Bridge Run! We still need 5 more people from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30, in Mount Pleasant to serve a meal, 8 more people downtown from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on March 30 to serve a meal, and 50 more volunteers to help set up and operate the Meeting Street water station (starting at 6:00 a.m.). This will be a great event and an opportunity to work together as a group!
