Charleston and Zambian students listen to a medical demonstration at MUSC.

From Rhonda Ewing at Green Contributor to MUSC:

Thank you for arranging a tour at the Medical University of South Carolina for our group of students from the International School of Lusaka, Zambia, Wando High School and Crown Leadership Academy. It was a globally relevant, intellectually challenging and exceptionally exciting educational tour! The entire experience was beyond my greatest imagination and opened up the realm of career options for these secondary-school students. Touring the Simulation Lab in the College of Nursing opened an entire new world to both the American and international students. As one student said, "It is like we entered the Star Wars version of medicine!"

Not only were the students enthralled, but every adult in the room stood there amazed at such technology and intelligence found at MUSC. Most of us know that being an "expert" in the field of medicine does not automatically make you a great presenter. However, during our tour, I was delighted with both Matt Gillespie from the MUSC simulation lab and Dr. Preston Church from Infectious Disease. Rarely, have I observed an accomplished specialty doctor who is able to engage and captivate the attention of teenagers as did Dr. Church. I believe we could have all listened to him another hour!
