MUSC Day to kick off on Giving Tuesday, aims for 500 donors in 24 hours

Join MUSC Nov. 28 to double your impact and unlock additional funds

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Nov. 15, 2023) – On Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Medical University of South Carolina will hold MUSC Day to coincide with Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving. MUSC Day is a statewide virtual fundraising event held online at muscday.org.

Gifts of all sizes will count toward the MUSC Day 2023 goal of 500 donors on Nov. 28. Donors can support the University or any MUSC Health location statewide from the secure muscday.org site.

Donations to regional MUSC Health locations will stay local and benefit the communities they serve. All donations to MUSC go to the MUSC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has supported MUSC in its lifesaving mission since 1966.

State funding accounts for about 3% of MUSC’s total operating budget, making private support critical to advancing MUSC’s mission to preserve and optimize human life in South Carolina through education, research and patient care.

On MUSC Day, gifts may be designated to help MUSC’s greatest needs, patient support or outreach at any MUSC Health location, student scholarships and faculty support at MUSC’s six colleges or to advance research and innovation statewide.

MUSC alumni, faculty members, board members and donors have generously contributed nearly $150,000 in matches and challenges to create excitement and incentivize participation this year. Each match doubles donations until matching funds are exhausted. Meeting a challenge unlocks additional funding in support of MUSC. For example, if 20 new donors give any amount to support the College of Medicine, an additional $10,000 in funds will be unlocked for the college, thanks to generous alumni Rakesh Chokshi, M.D., and Brinda Chokshi, M.D. Full details on matches and challenges are available on muscday.org

A new ambassador program is also being launched in support of MUSC Day. Ambassadors help to make our day of giving a success by sharing stories of how MUSC has affected their lives, with friends, family and co-workers. All ambassadors receive training and a toolkit to help them to be successful.
