MUSC Master of Science in Health Informatics online program reduces tuition, fees for fall 2023

CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 18, 2023) – Tuition and program fees for the Medical University of South Carolina’s online Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program will be reduced for both full- and part-time enrollment beginning in fall 2023. Full-time students will save $1,722 per semester or $6,888 over the four-semester program, and part-time students will see a reduction of $653 per semester or $3,918 over six semesters. The program cost is the same for in-state and out-of-state students.

“I’m delighted that we have reduced tuition, allowing students to achieve their academic and professional goals in health informatics with reduced financial burden,” said Abby Swanson Kazley, Ph.D., division director for Health Informatics. “Students will receive the same world-class education with less debt.” 

Tuition reduction is an effort to remain competitive with similar programs, and it aligns with the University’s efforts to reduce overall student debt. “While it is important for us to remain competitive, it is even more important for us to support the training of a vital workforce in a growing field like health informatics in our state and beyond,” said Zoher Kapasi, PT, Ph.D., dean of the College of Health Professions. “Removing financial barriers to increase access to our educational programs is just one way we can do that.”

In health informatics, data analytics and information technology intersect to affect patient care outcomes more effectively and positively. The MUSC MSHI program has a strong focus on data analytics. Students are prepared to manage, use and evaluate health care information systems, such as electronic health records and data management and analytic systems. They are also trained to think critically about ways to improve quality and increase access to care and to reduce costs. Most students are working health care professionals, including medical doctors, nurses, dental hygienists, pharmacists, pharmacy or laboratory technicians and health care researchers.

The program is designed with working professionals in mind, with classes delivered in an online hybrid format. Students complete the majority of their coursework asynchronously and visit the MUSC campus in Charleston once per semester. The program offers two start dates per year, and applications are still being accepted for fall 2023.
