  • Board recognizes executive vice president for Academic Affairs and provost for 35 years of distinguished service ahead of retirement

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Aug. 8, 2025) – The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Board of Trustees approved the operating budget for both the University and MUSC Health for fiscal year 2025–2026 at today’s meeting. The approved $8.3 billion budget reflects MUSC’s continued commitment to advancing health care innovation, academic excellence and community impact across South Carolina.

"This year’s exceptional financial performance across the enterprise reflects the strength and resilience of MUSC as an academic health system. With robust long-range forecasting for both the University and MUSC Health, we continue to project a bright and sustainable future that will enable us to serve communities close to home in South Carolina and reach across the nation,” said David J. Cole, M.D., FACS, president of MUSC.

Additionally, Raymond N. DuBois, M.D., Ph.D. informed the Board that the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is on track to achieve the goals in its strategic plan that will enable it to earn National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center status.

The Board also recognized Lisa K. Saladin, PT, Ph.D., FAPTA, for her 35 years of outstanding service to MUSC, the physical therapy profession and the citizens of South Carolina. Saladin currently serves as executive vice president for Academic Affairs and provost. Saladin will retire at the end of August.

“Saladin’s legacy as a visionary educator, innovator, scholar and administrator will leave a lasting impact on MUSC for decades to come,” said Charles Schulze, chairman of the Board of Trustees. “The Board commends Dr. Saladin for her leadership and remarkable career and extends its gratitude and wishes her the best in retirement.”

In June, the Board approved the appointment of John Marymont, M.D., MBA, who will succeed Saladin.
