CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 13, 2025) - The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has named Josh Marthers, a former WCBD-TV meteorologist, as senior manager of enterprise communications in the Office of Communications and Marketing.

In this new position, Marthers will play a critical role in executing MUSC’s enterprise communications, including internal and external communications strategies, as well as crisis management. He will also actively engage audiences across the MUSC enterprise.

“We are excited to have talent like Josh join the communications team. His extensive broadcast experience and knowledge of the local community, coupled with his dynamic communication skills will be an asset to MUSC, expanding our capabilities and opportunities for innovative communications,” said Staci Gouveia, senior executive director of Enterprise Communications for MUSC.

Marthers helped News 2 Today viewers plan their day each morning with the expected weather conditions, from heat waves to hurricanes. He worked at News 2 from May 2007 until his retirement in December 2024.

During Marthers’ 18-year broadcast career, he earned TV Weathercaster of the Year for three consecutive years (2016, 2017, 2018) from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC). In 2017, the Southeast Emmy® Awards presented him with a top honor for Outstanding On-Camera Talent - Anchor - Weather.

“After nearly two decades of forecasting Lowcountry weather and helping viewers understand what’s happening in the world around them, I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge to new challenges across an academic health system and continuing to serve our community in a new way through MUSC,” Marthers said.

Marthers, a Spartanburg native, earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of South Carolina Upstate and a Bachelor of Science in geosciences from Mississippi State University.
