Caroline Brown

Chief External Affairs Officer

Caroline Brown is the Chief External Affairs Officer for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and MUSC Health. Brown's responsibilities encompass both the university and the health system functions at MUSC, working to establish new strategic partnerships and overseeing the organization's external affairs programs with key external stakeholders including corporations, universities, and economic engagement organizations.

MUSCs strategic partnerships with Siemens Healthineers and Medtronic - two of the world's largest medical device and solutions companies - were established and operationalized under Caroline's leadership. She also serves in an advisory role to the Office of the President as Special Assistant to President David Cole, M.D.

Caroline is an innovative, results-driven leader with expertise in strategy; communications; establishing partnerships, affiliations, and joint ventures; deal making; and stakeholder relations.

Brown, a Charleston native, earned her undergraduate degree in public relations and a master's degree in business administration from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina

Wendy Minor, MBA/MHA, PMP, the Senior Director of Enterprise Partnership Management & Operations at MUSC.

Wendy Minor

Senior Director, Enterprise Partnership Management & Operations

Wendy Minor is the Senior Director of Enterprise Partnership Management and Operations for MUSC and MUSC Health. In this role she oversees the organization's strategic partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and achieve MUSC's strategic goals.

Wendy is relationship- and results-driven and brings many years of diverse work experience including project management, clinical affiliations and acquisitions, and ambulatory operations. She also has a clinical laboratory background.

Prior to joining MUSC in 2018 where she has worked in operations and finance, Wendy served in many leadership roles during her 28-year career at Novant Health. She earned an undergraduate degree in Medical Technology from Appalachian State University and her MBA/MHA from Pfeiffer University. She also received her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Christina O'Malley

Senior Manager, MUSC Regional Health Network

Christina O'Malley is the External Affairs Lead for MUSC's Florence Division. In this role, she establishes partnerships with key external stakeholders in the PeeDee region of South Carolina to drive effective collaboration.

Prior to joining MUSC, Christina served as senior vice president at a health care foundation that supported a local health system. There she set strategic direction and provided daily operational leadership for the foundation. Prior to entering the healthcare field, Christina honed a diverse range of business skills through her leadership roles in pharmaceutical, software and marketing/communications companies, and state government. Throughout her career, she has shared her broad expertise as a volunteer and board member of numerous non-profits. Christina holds a B.A. in political science from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Portia Brown is the External Affairs Lead for MUSC’s Lancaster Division.

External Affairs & Strategic Engagement Lead, MUSC Lancaster

Portia Brown is the External Affairs Lead for MUSC's Lancaster Division. In this role, she manages relationships with key external stakeholders in Lancaster and Chester to establish unique collaborations and partnerships.

Prior to joining MUSC, Portia served as a development officer at UNC Charlotte. There she cultivated and managed relationships with donors of the university. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Portia was director of annual giving at Winthrop University. Portia holds an undergraduate degree in business administration - marketing and an MBA from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

As the Relationship Manager, Clark Hankins serves as the key steward of the assigned partnerships across MUSC's tripartite mission. His primary responsibilities include managing a portfolio of our prospective, new, and existing enterprise collaborations with key external stakeholders to drive innovation and achieve MUSC's strategic goals.

Clark brings several years of diverse work experience including relationship management from his time working for the Governor of Florida and the energy industry as well as program management experience most recently in the Office of Clinical Research here at MUSC. Hankins, a former College of Charleston soccer player, earned his undergraduate degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration from the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Executive Assistant to the Chief External Affairs Officer

Meredith Verona is the Executive Assistant to the Chief External Affairs Officer, Caroline Brown. In this role, she is responsible for the execution of the day-to-day activities and operations of the Office of External Affairs and works with the Caroline and the team to ensure financial and strategic goals are realized. Meredith collaborates with MUSC's diverse internal and external stakeholders including senior leadership, frontline staff, external partners, and other key members of the community.

Meredith is a seasoned administrative professional who brings many years of diverse work experience in operations, human resources, and business. She holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina.

Ann Collins Josey, MUSC External Affairs Coordinator.

External Affairs Coordinator

Ann Collins Josey serves as the External Affairs Coordinator. In this role she partners with and provides support to the external affairs staff and leadership team. In addition, she coordinates existing and prospective external affairs programs and communicates with stakeholders to broaden the impact of the office of external affairs.

Ann Collins has previous experience in marketing, sales, business initiatives and operations. Focusing on fundraising and partnership building, Ann Collins has experience with community relationships and outreach programs. A graduate of Clemson University, Ann Collins holds an undergraduate degree in Marketing with emphasis in Sales and Nonprofit Leadership. She is currently pursuing her Master's of Health Administration degree at MUSC.
