In celebration of MUSC’s Bicentennial year, a series of nine 7-foot panel exhibits will travel around MUSC’s health system hospitals throughout South Carolina.

In a momentous celebration of its rich legacy, the Medical University of South Carolina is set to embark on a journey through time with a series of traveling exhibits in honor of its bicentennial year. These exhibits weave a compelling narrative that encapsulates the institution's 200-year history.

Nine double-sided exhibits will travel across the MUSC network of hospitals throughout 2024. The goal was to construct narratives that not only tell the story of MUSC but also serve as a valuable resource for both the campus community and visitors. The striking large panels, 7 feet tall by 7 feet wide, are certain to capture the attention of all who attend an exhibition.

The exhibits are categorized into three overarching themes: THEN, NOW, NEXT, which delve into subcategories such as Education, MUSC History and Innovation, offering a comprehensive exploration of MUSC's evolution. Education will shed light on pivotal moments such as the founding of the college, the administration of Kenneth Lynch, M.D., and the medical campus expansion. Exhibits will touch on the founding of early hospitals, the evolution of care and the significant role played by centers of excellence, like MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.

MUSC History features an exploration into transformative events and subjects like the Hospital Workers Strike, and, lastly, the Innovation exhibits showcase how MUSC has been a pioneer in fields like education, cancer, neurology, transplant and stroke.

The foundation for this series of installations aimed at promoting and preserving MUSC's illustrious history has been a labor of love for the institution. The exhibits are not merely a stroll down memory lane; they represent a concerted effort to honor the institution's legacy, inspire the current generation and chart a course for the future.

As the exhibits travel between MUSC's hospitals throughout the bicentennial year, they will not only serve as reminders of the institution's remarkable past but also as a representation of its current initiatives and a peek into the institution’s goals for years to come. MUSC employees from Orangeburg, Black River and Indian Land to Lancaster and Florence are thrilled to have the chance to join in the Bicentennial celebration tangibly, eager to experience the illuminating panels themselves and share in the excitement surrounding this milestone.

The overarching celebration is not just about reaching a formidable milestone; it's also about recognizing the resilience, innovation and commitment that have defined MUSC for two centuries – a legacy that will undoubtedly continue to shape its future endeavors for generations to come.

This year, you’ll have an opportunity to visit all of the MUSC Bicentennial traveling exhibits. The exhibits will traverse the state, stopping at various MUSC locations throughout the year. Please periodically check the Bicentennial website for the latest information on events, activities and schedules. We hope you will mark your calendars and visit the MUSC location nearest you.
