Dr. Cole at his desk laughing.

Why a blog? I asked myself the same question, and three immediate possible answers came to mind:

  1. It’s a better use of my time than starting my own online cooking show from my backyard.

  2. It’s a good distraction from constantly refreshing my web browser, looking at real-time COVID-19 statistics.

  3. It could provide another touchpoint of connectivity, communication and learning.

As I write this, I’m thinking all three are likely valid.

All kidding aside, why am I really doing this blog? My hope is that it might help members of the MUSC family, the communities we serve and others hear from me from time to time on bigger picture topics and ideas that drive, inspire and fuel our team’s thinking as we move the institution forward. The thought is to provide a little more insight, connect dots when needed, empower innovative thinking and highlight achievements large and small. I also hope that you’ll get a better understanding of who I am and my commitment to MUSC’s shared values, mission and vision.

As part of my various roles at MUSC over the years, I am heavily invested in and optimistic about (and yes, biased) where the organization is headed. Considering just this past year (COVID included),the strategic moves we have made to transform and grow, and the talent of the MUSC family, have positioned us remarkably well to meet the future. We’re a big organization, with a ton going on (probably the understatement of 2020); I look forward to sharing more with you.
