2021 Open Enrollment

  • Open Enrollment is October 1st-31st, 2021 with changes taking effect January 1st, 2022.
  • To review your insurance elections and make changes during open enrollment, you will be required to make changes through PEBA’s MyBenefits portal.
  • Through MyBenefits you can update life insurance beneficiaries, personal information and make certain qualifying event changes through this system.

  • If you do not take any action all your current benefits will rollover into 2022 except flexible spending accounts. The IRS requires re-enrollment in Health Savings, Dependent Care Spending and Medical Spending Accounts each year.

  • Be sure to review the 2022 MUSC Summary of Benefits.

  • 2022 Premiums. Health insurance premiums will remain the same from 2021 into 2022. Dental plus and vision monthly premiums will increase slightly.

  • Add/drop dental insurance for yourself and/or dependents. If you don't make change to dental this year, your next opportunity to make changes will be in October 2023.
  • Enroll in the Medical Spending and Dependent Care Spending Accounts for 2022. You can carry over up to $550 of unused MSA funds into the next plan year (2023). Use the Moneyplus worksheet to calculate the amount you may wish to contribute to a medical Spending or a Dependent Care Spending Account.
  • Enroll in, drop, decrease or increase Optional Life, Dependent Life-Spouse and Dependent Life-Child coverage. Any increase or enrollment in optional or dependent life-spouse will require medical evidence. For life insurance changes that require medical evidence, employees must complete a Notice of Election form and email it to benefits@musc.edu by October 31, 2021. The MUSC University Benefits Team will submit the NOE to PEBA once we receive approval from Metlife. Please review the Optional life insurance NOE instruction guide and Spouse Life insurance instruction guide for assistance in completing the NOE form.
  • To enroll in or increase Optional Life coverage, you must complete a shorter Supplemental Form online. You will receive an email from MetLife that includes a link to the form on MetLife’s MyBenefits platform. If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you will be prompted to complete a full Statement of Health. Answering “no” to all health questions on the Supplemental Form does not automatically approve you for coverage.
  • To enroll in or increase Dependent Life-Spouse coverage, you must complete a full Statement of Health online. You will receive an email from MetLife that includes a link to the form on MetLife’s MyBenefits platform. You may make all other open enrollment changes in the PEBA MyBenefits website.
  • Enroll in Supplemental Long Term Disability (SLTD) coverage or decrease the waiting period with existing coverage with medical evidence. You can drop coverage or increase the waiting period with existing coverage without medical evidence. You can change your SLTD benefit waiting period from 90 days to180 days or vice versa for existing coverage without medical evidence.
  • Enroll in or drop the Pretax Group Insurance Premium feature.
