Title IX

Title IX is a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex, which includes sexual harassment and sexual violence, in education programs and activities. Prohibited discrimination occurs when an MUSC student or employee is treated differently based on their sex or gender.

Under the 2024 Amendments to the U.S. Department of Education's Title IX Regulations

The Medical University of South Carolina (“MUSC”) does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX and its regulations, including in admission and employment.

Inquiries about Title IX may be referred to MUSC’s Title IX Coordinator, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, or both. Mission Statement

MUSC is committed to maintaining a safe environment that is supportive of its mission and free from harassment and discrimination. To this end, MUSC actively engages in prevention and education efforts. It also prohibits sexual and gender-based misconduct (a/k/a “Prohibited Conduct”). Title IX Coordinator

MUSC has appointed a Title IX Coordinator to oversee compliance with Title IX and to coordinate compliance with applicable provisions of the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 ("VAWA"), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the South Carolina Human Affairs Law. The Title IX Coordinator has multiple responsibilities, including but not limited to overseeing MUSC's response to reports of prohibited conduct, leading MUSC's education efforts for students and employees about sex and gender-based misconduct, resources, and reporting options; and tracking and monitoring patterns, trends, and issues of concern.
