Members of MUSC Health’s Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) team at Hollings Cancer Center recently attended the 2019 Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (TCT) Meeting in Houston, Texas, where they presented research abstracts and  Stacey Warneke RN, received the 2019 Oncology Nursing Society Excellence in Blood & Marrow Transplantation Award.

The TCT Meetings are the combined annual meetings of the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR). This event, which took place from February 20-24, allows researchers, clinicians and administrators from a broad range of fields to address the latest developments in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

Hollings Cancer Center team members spoke on various topics to address how to improve the treatment and rehabilitation of bone and blood marrow transplant patients.

Elizabeth Williams, MUSC’s BMT Program Quality and Outcomes Manager, spoke at the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy-ASBMT Quality Boot Camp. Her presentation was “BMT After-Hours Call Guidelines,” which discussed one of many of the national best practices the BMT program has been recognized for in 2018-19.

Kathy Edwards PharmD, was an invited speaker for the Beyond Fundamentals of HCT course on “HCT Day +100 and Beyond: Long Term Care Panel Discussion.”  Edwards also updated the chapter on Long-Term Complications and Survivorship.

MUSC’s BMT team also participated in one multi-site clinical trial and one multi-site project that were presented as oral abstracts at the event.
