COVID-19: MUSC Presidential Update

A Letter from MUSC President David J. Cole, M.D., FACS - March 13, 2020

Dear MUSC family,

I want to start by thanking you for everything you’re doing right now to keep the wheels of this institution turning while we do our best to meet the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to monitor and align with the ever-evolving information and guidance from the CDC and SCDHEC as we prepare for any number of possible scenarios.

Please click on this video message for my sincere and important ask of every MUSC family member in the days ahead:

Please continue to visit www.musc.edu/coronavirus and www.muschealth.org/coronavirus for robust and consistently updated information.

I also want you to be aware that along with the Charleston County School District, tomorrow we will launch a statewide public awareness social media movement to #FlattenTheCurveSC.

The campaign is intended primarily to do two things: to help our local and statewide community understand the moral imperative and opportunity we have to slow the spread and impact of this virus, and to offer a way for students, teachers, families, neighbors and others to demonstrate on social media how they are aligning with and practicing the concept of social distancing in an effort to flatten the curve. Please help us spread the word, not the virus.

These are unprecedented times, and we will continue to navigate them together. I’m counting on you, and you can count on me.

Yours in service,
David J. Cole, M.D., FACS
MUSC president
