Russia, Italy, United States, Turkey, Greece, Belgium - this is just a short list of countries I got to live in for longer than 3 months. Different cities, towns, various nature settings from the top of a mountain during the Olympic Games in Sochi, to busy cities, small villages, summer camps, and whatnot. I have seen some of the best fitness and wellness facilities in the world but it goes without saying that I couldn’t commit to a gym membership while traveling so often.
Imagine being able to fit everything you need for life for, let’s say, 3 months in one suitcase? Ok, plus a carry on. Clothes, shoes, cosmetics, professional gear, souvenirs (I always have the most popular Russian drinks for gifts), and....A suspension training system. The one you can easily attach to a tree in the woods, to a railing in a skate park, or a backyard if your setting allows. The one that becomes your solution when you are not able to go to the gym. Yes, it is easy to buy a TRX, but what if you have time to make your personal DIY and what if you want to save some money?
Here are a few helpful tricks on owning your suspension system:
- Make your own! There are so many tutorials on making your own system. Check videos on youtube (For example, my husband’s video. He is a former professional athlete and had his straps everywhere with him. DIY Suspension Straps)
- Make it visible! If it is hanging on your backyard/front of your house - you will never miss it. 100% motivation guaranteed! If you see it - do an exercise or “hang out” for a few exercise sequences after your walk/run.
- Get a total body workout! Your suspension straps exercises incorporate nearly every muscle of the human body. Remember that core activation is one of the most important aspects when you are executing exercises. The workouts are simple yet very challenging, and you can easily complete a total-body workout only using one piece of equipment in 20 minutes. Get inspired with online videos!
- Socialize! This is a great tool to share and enjoy your workouts with your partners, friends, or neighbors.
I am challenging you to make your own suspension system and start with this workout:
- 10 Rows
- 10 Jump Squats
- 10 Knee Tuck/Pike Combos
- 10 Hamstring Curls
- 10 Pushups
- 10 “Y” Pulls
