Hill named as director of Hollings' Biostatistics Shared Resource

Elizabeth Hill, Ph.D., a professor of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina, has joined MUSC Hollings Cancer Center as director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource, effective Jan. 18.

The resource, which is supported by Hollings’ National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant, aims to ensure that cancer investigators have access to specialized technology and research services that are efficient and cost-effective and provide the latest industry standards for enhanced scientific productivity.

Hill, who previously held this position from 2017 through early 2020, rejoins Hollings after a year of serving as the statistical director of the oncology early phase program at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. She first became a member of the Biostatistics Shared Resource in 2007, four years after joining the faculty at MUSC.

Hill’s research interests are broadly based in applications in oncology, including early phase clinical trials, population science and translational science. She has specific expertise in statistical methods in biomarker discovery and spatial statistics with an emphasis on proteomics, which is the study of entire sets of proteins found in an organism or biological system. She is also interested in the development of statistical methods for biomarker discovery with highly censored data.

As director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource, she hopes to improve the shared resource’s score during the cancer center’s next NCI Cancer Center Support Grant renewal.
