WHO:

Enterprise faculty, staff and care team members who show the potential of serving as change agents within their College, Department, and/or our Organization at-large. This cohort is intended to be a diverse working group committed to an innovative year-long learning experience and continued service in the realm of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

WHAT:

Participants will become Equity and Inclusion Ambassadors through the completion of this program. Participants meet during the times listed below and participate in innovative and interactive learning experiences including virtual classroom sessions and individualized coaching/discussions led by Dr. DaNine J. Fleming.

The second portion of the certificate program is designed to give participants the tools needed to operationalize diversity and inclusion in their respective work areas/units as well as across the MUSC enterprise. All sessions build upon the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program, and attendance is mandatory. Participants are required to complete a capstone project and present their work at the conclusion of the program.

WHY:

To help develop the internal capacity of MUSC enterprise members to have the resources necessary to partner and create more meaningful, sustainable diversity and inclusion practices within our organization. This certificate program is designed to assist MUSC community members with providing the means to create a more inclusive, socially just organization.

WHEN:

Program Orientation:

Thursday, June 11, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Weekly Sessions:

12 weekly sessions (11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) every Friday (August 27th-November 12th, 2021)

Inclusion to Innovation Summit:

Monday, November 8, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Monthly Sessions:

Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Capstone Presentation:

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

COMMITMENT:

On designated dates, participants will be expected to commit to a minimum of:

  1. Two and a half  (2.5) hours for presentation, lecture, seminar, activities or other structured interaction with colleagues and
  2. Two and a half (2.5) hours of pertinent readings/activities

This intense Certificate Program will help prepare participants to lead conversations on matters regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and serve as effective allies directly impacting the recruitment and retention of individuals with a particular emphasis on underrepresented minorities.

Interested applicants should complete the online application. The deadline to apply is May 7th, 2021 by 5:00 p.m. Selected participants will meet June 11, 2021 for a program orientation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Participants will present a capstone project for the campus community based on the research activities of the working group
  2. Each participant will develop/enhance a program/service within their Department/College and join an enterprise-wide working group for current projects/initiatives.

COST:

A nominal College or Department commitment of $1,500 per participant. The Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will sponsor the remainder of the participant fee TO INCLUDE:

  1. All required books
  2. Resource materials utilized in the course
  3. Group coaching with Dr. Obear

If accepted, payment should be remitted via IIT. More information will be provided upon acceptance.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

In support of the ONEMUSC Enterprise strategic plan, and our strategic goal of becoming the preeminent model for inclusion and equity among academic health systems, this certificate program enables MUSC employees to initiate, develop and sustain innovative DEI practices, programs and policies with an overall goal of actively creating inclusive and socially just environments at the Medical University for South Carolina.

Upon successful completion of the program, certified equity & inclusion ambassadors will be able to infuse equity and inclusion into their work and serve as a peer coach and resource to their colleagues. The Center for Transformation and Change Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program addresses such topics as: examining the far-reaching impact of microaggressions on individuals as well as organizational goals, morale, productivity, and overall success; creating inclusive, socially just organizations, and interrupting racism.

  • Trained leaders will be able to:
  • Help to move the diversity and inclusion goals identified by Departments or Units forward in a systematic way, preventing siloed approaches and outcomes
  • Work to enhance greater collaboration across the organization
  • Serve as internal resource to partner with leaders to assist them in achieving their inclusion/equity goals and
  • Meet quarterly to gain additional skills share challenges and discuss best practices.
